In converting an Astoria diner into a Brazilian restaurant, the owners of Sabor Tropical did little more than slap on colorful murals of Rio’s fabled beaches, but it’s the food that draws the hood’s growing expat community. Centered on carioca and paulista staples, the menu’s divided into fish, shrimp, meat and poultry (read chicken) dishes. Standouts include the fraldinha com palmito (succulent skirt steak topped with tender palm hearts) and the camarão com catupir (baked shrimp drenched in tangy Catupiry cheese). Feijoada fanatics note: that dish is only available as a Saturday house special.
