The Russian ex-pats who teeter gamely on pencil-thin heels under a glittering disco ball certainly don’t come for the food (the unimaginative Russian banquet fare includes gluey red caviar and deli-grade stolichny salad), nor for the service, which can be efficient to the point of rude. What they do come for are the adrenaline-inducing discotheque-inflected live musical performances, emceed by a black-velour-clad Barry Manilow look-alike, who keeps things moving with shout-outs to anniversary and birthday celebrants. The surreal sensation of being on a Russian cruise ship docked in Vegas, complete with neon lights and stainless steel balustrades, is accentuated by the after-dinner show, a fantastically spangled chorus line that blazes through a Russian-inflected interpretation of international dances.
