Q56, formerly Quantum 56, has pared down more than its name. The simple one-page menu emphasizes grilled seafood with a choice of sauces, served steakhouse-style. Side dishes like mashed potatoes or broccoli are offered à la carte, bringing the price of an entrée to $36 or more—a steep tab for fresh but unremarkable fillets of swordfish or salmon. The dining room is comfortable enough, with chairs upholstered in soft Ultrasuede and tables spaced widely enough for private conversation. That, combined with the popular bar, high prices and midtown hotel location, makes Q56 a good choice for expense-account diners whose guests will be satisfied with simple grilled fish.
