The name of this poké shop in Queens gives a nod to the dish’s Hawaiian origins, though you won’t be riding the waves after picking up a bowl here. Still, the influence of the islands is apparent in dishes like the Big Island bowl with tuna, scallion, onion, cilantro, sesame seeds, kani salad and seaweed salad and the Wasabi Mix with salmon, tuna, wasabi aioli, jalapeno, cucumber, bell pepper, masago, sesame seeds, kani salad and seaweed salad (both $8.95 for a small, $11.95 for a large). Diners can also create their own bowl for the same price. PokéWave also serves onigiri with unusual fillings like the Spam Bam with spam, scallions and eel sauce and the Shrimp and Chips with garlic shrimp, shrimp chips, spicy mayo and jalapeno sauce ($3 each). And what better to wash it all down with than an ice-cold can of Hawaiian Sun ($1.75)?
