There are countless street vendors around Echo Park Lake, but none offer the delicious toasts, pastries and other European-inspired fare at Piknik, the newest occupant of the boathouse. Run by the same team behind the Lonely Oyster and Little Joy, the takeout-style spot serves a killer grilled cheese sandwich made with Gouda and cheddar, plus excellent pastries, from a pistachio-dusted cardamom bun to craveable selection of cookies. Cold-pressed juices—made daily on-site—and lighter fare appeal to local joggers and runnners in search of a healthier lunch. If you’d like to dine on-site, there’s also a handful of stools and a few picnic tables just outside.
