Office workers, tourists and locals have been dining on the hummus, kofta and pita at Omar’s Mediterranean Cuisine for years. Taste Egyptian native Omar Abouzaid’s food for yourself as his eponymous restaurant in Midtown. The menu includes plenty of grilled favorites, from chicken shawarma to lamb adana (both $10.95 for a pita, $13.95 for a platter). Other specialties include the veggie platter with falafel, hummus, baba ghanoush and pita bread ($12.95) and Omar’s signature dish of mixed grilled meats with a rice-eggplant Turkish salad ($17.95). Don’t forget the plethora of sides like cucumber-yogurt salad, tabouli and spicy spinach and chickpeas in a tomato sauce (all $5.50). Of course, no Mediterranean feast would be complete without a slice of sweet baklava ($1.75).
