Milk and cookies used to be a simple one-two punch. But as with so many other innocent desserts—s’mores, hot chocolate, brownies—adults have found a way to complicate things. At the new Milk & Cookies Bakery in the West Village, husband-and-wife team Marc and Jennifer Limotte are baking cookies to order and letting customers choose their own ingredients (like nuts, M&Ms, white chocolate and raisins). If you can’t decide on a combo, opt instead for one of the couple’s preconceived cookies or brownies—like cream cheese, peppermint or turtle fudge. Even the milk here gets special treatment; it’s organic and supplied by Ronnybrook Farm Dairy in upstate New York.
