Aside from sporting one of the greatest Chinese restaurant names we’ve ever seen, Ling Ling Young Young also appears to have a very dedicated kitchen crew—visible from the tiny fluorescent-lit room—continually tending to sizzling woks and deep fryers. But the food wavers from average to sub par. General Tso’s is a far cry from the good stuff in Sunset Park. Here, a tasteless orange sauce coated the beef. The spareribs were dry and flavorless, and the shrimp toast appeared to be devoid of actual shrimp. Tender pork was immersed in a pleasant black bean sauce that would have succeeded if not for the excess cornstarch, which thickened the dish to the point of custard.
