Mourners of defunct Pampa might be forgiven for shedding their grief upon walking into La Rural: The décor and menu of this restaurant occupying the same space are virtually identical. Tables on the small patio are hard to score, but the real action is nearer the parrilla, where the meat is grilled in full view. Watch the flames while savoring some crisp empanadas (the corn, beef and mozzarella fillings are delectably fresh) or an appetizer of grilled sweetbreads. The bife de lomo is succulent and the entrana chewy, but the parrillada for two (actually three) features both as well as ribs and exquisite morcilla (blood sausage). Purists will approve of the chimichurri’s tanginess and the ñoquis served on the 29th of the each month—only the yerba mate’s arrival in a teabag disappoints.
