No one ever said that good, inexpensive sushi would come with decent lighting. Koo Sushi is what Denny’s would be if it served sushi—there’s a giant laminated menu, low-low prices and a free piece of gum at the end of the meal. But the sushi and sashimi is as tasty as any you’ll find in this price bracket: A huge platter for two is $36 and comes with enough seafood—including two wacky special rolls like the “godzilla” (deep-fried spicy tuna)—to stuff you full. Let the chef pick an assortment for you, or choose your own from more than 60 types of sushi. Some of the names (jeffy roll, 2008 roll) are silly, but one makes perfect sense: A spicy yellowtail roll with tobiko is called the “yummy roll.”
