“Don’t ask like that,” your server may tell you if you dare request spicy, and depending on your mood, you might indulge such attitude for mediocre Northern Indian and Bengali fare. Light, deep-fried lentil kachori are less of a liability, served in a zesty tamarind chutney; usual suspects like chicken tikka masala and a requested vegetarian curry (off menu) do the job with a minimum of flare. But takeout feels like a better bet considering the tiled, dimly lit cafeteria. Frankly, you can do better in Park Slope. And was it spicy? Not nearly enough to learn the proper way to ask.
