This intimate 12-seat kaiseki restaurant just steps from Union Square offers stunning views of the Manhattan skyline from its 6th-floor perch in the Westerly Building. Helmed by Chef Chikara Sono, a revered kaiseki master, this exclusive dining spot celebrates hyper-seasonal ingredients, precise techniques and traditional Japanese cuisine. Chef Sono’s warm personality—and his ability to connect with each guest—adds a personal touch to each meal. Standout dishes like truffle croquettes and saikyo miso-marinated Wagyu tongue are enhanced by an impressive selection of Japanese and French wines. Unique desserts complete an unforgettable dining experience that will transport you from NYC to Japan.

Time Out says
The newest iteration of Kappo Sono is an ebullient 12-seat counter overlooking the Manhattan cityscape helmed by one of the most renowned and beloved practitioners of kaiseki in the United States, Chef Chikara Sono. Although a major proponent of hyper-seasonality, precise techniques, and Japanese tradition, more important is Sono’s unwavering humility, humor, and warmth for those in his presence. He will host only 12 guests per evening, so he could profoundly connect with each and every one of them. Along with his longtime team, Sono has enlisted Pastry Chef Norie Uematsu and Beverage Director Leo Lê to bolster his experience. Please celebrate with Kappo Sono as it endeavors to transport you to Japan over New York City.
