This classy Chelsea restaurant majors in new-Mexican cuisine, with traditional flavours from Guadalajara and Puebla given a bit of oomph from modern techniques and some great-looking plating. Well, when you're taking your name from one of the very finest Mexican artists, your dishes kinda have to look the part.
Food options here range from fancy guacamoles, lobster ceviche and tacos filled with things like Colorado lamb shank, poblano pepper rajas and pico de gallo, to Alaskan king salmon served with tomatillo veloute and zucchini corn esquites, and ancho chile arrachera with Idaho potatoes, shishito peppers and tarragon guacaole.
Cocktails are a focus too, with each designed to match the flavors of the food. Mezcal and tequila play a prominent role – in fact their take on an Old Fashioned makes room for both, mixing them in with bourbon and rye whiskeys, angostura and Regan's orange bitters and a lick of sugar. Elsewhere it's pisco sours, caipirinhas, Hemingway daiquiris, martinis and more on a list that reads very well indeed.
