The bright and whimsical décor—the front door handle is a giant red chili pepper—lends a playful vibe to the seriously health-conscious menu, which expounds Josie’s philosophy of using organic, seasonal cuisine and limited dairy ingredients. The food is inconsistent, though, as some tasty dishes—black bean dumplings and angel hair pomodoro, potato and broccoli dumplings —are as heavy as diner grub, while others like the luscious salad topped with creamy grilled tofu or macadamia-encrusted chicken are fresh and delightful. A loud spot filled with locals and their kids, Josie’s is festive and convenient for pre– or post–Beacon Theater din-din.
