Whatever your expectations upon reading African American food on the awning of heavily curtained Florence's, the menu inside this cluttered, one-room restaurant will probably give them a jolt. The fare here is not soul food, but hearty dishes from the Ivory Coast and Ghana. From the former come a variety of fish plates, notably the poisson braisse, served with a side of fried plaintains or attieke. The Ghanan side of the menu is given over to stews—try the spinach-based version mixed with a choice of meat or fish. In good weather, you can take your feast to Morningside Park .
