Although Baluchi’s is a chain, the Soho location (one of 17 around the city) doesn’t have a cookie-cutter vibe. Instead, the dining room is lit with votive candles and decorated with tapestries and carved wooden chairs. The long menu includes tasty dishes such as spicy kebabs of ground lamb and dense, milky patties of paneer tikka, followed by creamy chicken korma; chickpeas with tomatoes, onions and spices; and mustard-accented Malabar salmon curry. Well-charred tandoori breads and fragrant basmati rice must be ordered separately, and will pad your bill a bit.
