Chances are good that you know somebody named Ryan. The common Irish last named turned first name has earned a spot in the top 100 baby names in America for the past several decades. Frankly, there are a lot of them.
To celebrate all the Ryan-ness, a group called the Ryan Meetup is hosting Rytoberfest at Clinton Hall in Williamsburg (247 Metropolitan Ave) on Saturday, October 21. The evening event aims to "pay homage to the name and celebrate where the beers will be flowing and the Bryans won't be going."
All Ryans are invited. Those with names Ryann, Ryon, Rian or something else that is phonetically still "Ryan" are also welcome to attend. Bryans, however, are not. We can't even imagine how they'd feel about a Bryant.
Under-21 Ryans are even welcome to attend (they can bring a non-Ryan guardian) for some root beer. The Ryan who travels farthest to attend will receive a coveted handshake trophy.
One day, the group hopes to host RyanCon, and break the world record for the largest same name gathering in history. If you're wondering, "what's the point?" Well, it's simple, the group says: "Because we want to meet other people named Ryan."
