A Shake Shack burger is always a good idea—but the food tastes that much better when flying high over the city.
Following last year's partnership with the iconic burger brand on flights out of Boston, Delta just announced that it will expand the program to offer its delicious burgers in-flight from four additional cities, including New York.
Starting this week, Delta First Class passengers on flights over 900 miles leaving New York-LaGuardia will have the chance to pre-order the legendary Shake Shack Cheeseburger for lunch or dinner.
Travelers on Delta routes departing Atlanta, Los Angeles and Seattle will now be able to pre-select the dish on board as well.
For the uninitiated (blasphemy!), Shake Shack Cheeseburger is made with a 100% Angus beef patty and melted cheese sandwiched in a toasted potato bun. Diners can customize it with fresh tomatoes, lettuce and the chain's signature ShackSauce.
Although the airline has not released information about what side dishes the food will be served with, we suspect that the meal will look how it does on outbound Boston flights: a cheeseburger presented alongside a Caesar salad, potato chips and a dark chocolate brownie.
According to an official press release, Delta is is also refreshing its onboard menu with a slew of other culinary initiatives, from chef-inspired seasonal dishes to novel beverage options and limited-edition Delta Centennial snacks.
For what it's worth, our friends at Time Out Boston had a chance to try a shake Shack burger on a Delta flight out of Logan Airport in Boston last year. The verdict? "The cheeseburger was fantastic," wrote contributor Jacqueline Dole in December. "The patty retained its crispy, caramelized crust, the cheese was perfectly melted and the potato bun was soft without being soggy. Keeping the toppings on the side ensured that the burger felt fresh, and it wasn’t cumbersome to assemble it in the cabin."
