Pret A Manger isn’t exactly known for its drinks. While the chain offers a variety of caffeinated beverages across its 44 New York area locations, it’s really the food menu—sandwiches, soups and salads made with “natural ingredients” and sustainably sourced when possible—that patrons enjoy daily.
But that might be changing soon. The brand has just launched a new matcha menu, likely hoping to capitalize on the green tea craze that’s taken over New York in recent years.
“Featuring 100% organic, ceremonial-grade matcha from Tenzo, the new offerings cater to those seeking an alternative to coffee and traditional teas while staying true to Pret's commitment to premium ingredients and freshness,” reads an official press release about the new line, now available at all New York locations.
The new menu includes an oat matcha latte (available hot or iced), a matcha lemonade and a pink guava iced matcha latte. Each drink is made with oat milk by default, but customers can opt for any other type of dairy at no extra charge. There’s also the option to personalize drinks with real-fruit compotes—think blueberry, dragon fruit and mango.
As for the matcha itself, it’s a 100% organic variety from Tenzo, sourced from a family farm in Kagoshima, Japan, which has been cultivating green tea in rich, volcanic soil for over 400 years. Talk about a meaningful sip.
