Getting a little tipsy at a New York tourist attraction is always a good idea. Safely, of course.
To help with the mission, New York's original "ice cream barlour" (that is, booze-infused scoop shop), Tipsy Scoop, is popping up at the Empire State Building. Now through September 3, Tipsy Scoop is serving liquor-infused ice cream on Tuesdays through Sundays from 11am–8pm at the Empire State Building Observatory.
Take in the views from the observation deck on the 86th floor, over 1,050 feet above the sidewalk, with a refreshing treat that's both a cocktail and dessert. Flavors include mango margarita sorbet (yes, there's a viral video potential with this one), dark chocolate whiskey and salted caramel ice cream, raspberry limoncello sorbet, and tequila Mexican hot chocolate ice cream topped with fresh whipped cream. Non-alcoholic scoop options are also available.
If you haven't been up to this attraction in a while, this summer may be the ideal time to book your visit. The Empire State Building's Observatory recently underwent a $165 million re-imagination, creating an all-new experience with a dedicated guest entrance, an interactive museum with nine galleries, and a redesigned observatory with floor-to-ceiling glass windows for uninterrupted views of Manhattan and beyond.
Tickets are required to ride the elevator to the observatories, starting at $44 for adults to reach the 86th floor and $79 to ride all the way up to the 102nd floor. Reservations are available online, and express passes are also offered for $119 per person.
Should you prefer to enjoy boozy ice cream closer to street level, Tipsy Scoop's Barlour is open daily in Kips Bay at 217 E 26th St and in Williamsburg, at 270 Metropolitan Ave. Aubi and Ramsa also operates two booze-infused ice cream shops in Manhattan, in NoMad and the Meatpacking District.
Just like any alcohol sold in New York, liquor-infused ice cream may only be enjoyed by those 21+.
