Just as is the case every year, the Times Square Alliance is inviting all couples to either renew their vows, get engaged or actually tie the knot in Times Square on Valentine's Day.
If you're signing up for a surprise proposal, which you can do right here and will take place on one of the neighborhood's iconic screens, be prepared to answer questions about your relationship, why you want to get married and why proposing in Times Square would make the life event even more special. Those are all topics explored in the official application.
Prospective vow renewal candidates, on the other hand, can register for the happening right here. Keep in mind that the ceremony will kick off at 6pm and conclude by 6:30pm promptly, “giving you plenty of time to get a romantic dinner and perhaps catch a show afterwards,” according to a press release. Just in case, here is our list of best Broadway shows right now.
This year in particular, the Times Square Alliance announced that when it comes to the renewal of vows on site, “a special invitation is extended to lovebirds whose kisses bridge boundaries, be they religious, political, racial or national, as well as couples in wedding attire.”
Finally, folks looking to get married at the Crossroads of the World should sign up right here. Ceremonies are scheduled to take place near a large-scale version of the winning ice sculpture from the Governors Island Ice Sculpture Competition.
If part of the latter category of events, you'll have to bring along at least two witnesses on the day of the ceremony and secure a marriage license following all New York State laws to make sure that your special day is kosher by all standards.
Funnily enough, although, as New Yorkers, we’re not the biggest fans of Times Square and try our best to avoid the area unless catching a show there, we must admit that the annual “Love in Times Square” program simply delights us. In a way, it helps melt the very New York-like ice that usually surrounds our skeptical hearts. There’s just something about love, even in Times Square, right?
