If you're not down for the beloved NYC summer pastime of sitting in a stifling movie theater, waiting for the AC to come on for two hours, there are some kickass outdoors screenings launching in the next few weeks. And the gag is this: they're free!
Just days after McCarren Park announced its SummerScreen lineup for July and August, Brooklyn Bridge Park has dropped its slate for its gorgeous Thursday night Movies with a View series, which kicks off July 12. Here's the full lineup:
July 12: Desperately Seeking Susan
July 19: Kung Fu Panda 2
July 26: Paris is Burning
August 2: Bend It Like Beckham
August 9: Wayne’s World
August 16: Love & Basketball
August 23: Wonder Woman
August 30: Public vote over Dance, Girl, Dance, Big, Point Break and The Matrix
Is it us, or is this there something for everyone on this list? The Paris is Burning screening will be something to remember, and Wayne’s World is poised to be another excellent throwback. Movies screen every Thursday at sundown. DJ sets get rolling at 6pm, with bites offered from Smorgasburg and short movies before the feature presentation.
Beyond Brooklyn Bridge, you should check out Alamo Drafthouse's Outer Space Outdoors every Monday in June, with flicks like Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Gravity; and the Tribeca Drive-In at Oculus weekends, where you can catch classics like Moonstruck and Lady and the Tramp.
Now you're cultured. You're welcome.
