In recent years, the restaurant-slash-party spot Gitano has been the setting of many a drunk brunches and splashy Fashion Week shows. What it's never been, though, is easily accessible: the clubsaurant is usually only open from May to September on Governor's Island, which means the masses have had to take a ferry to reach it.
Things are about to change, though: Grupo Gitano, the global luxury hospitality brand behind Gitano, just opened its first permanent location in the U.S. at the Seaport.

The new restaurant, stylized in all caps as GITANO, sprawls across a 13,605 square-foot space at the 89 South Street and plans to bring its signature fusion of jungle vibes, elevated design and clubbing—this time, with prime views of the Brooklyn Bridge. The debut of the flagship location will come at the heels of the opening of GITANO Dubai and a series of pop-ups and activations across the globe that have increasingly cemented the brand's name in the international entertainmentscape.
"We will blend the energy and creativity of New York with the laid-back luxury of the Yucatán, to transport our guests out of the city to our bohemian, tropical paradise that is delicious, glamorous and fun!," said James Gardner, founder and CEO of Grupo Gitano, in an official statement.

The new space at the Seaport features a ballroom-like dining room with 30-foot ceilings where—allegedly—New York City's biggest disco ball hangs. There are also hydraulic glass doors opening onto the water and an exclusive nightclub on the second floor designed to feel like you're being transported to the insides of a massive disco ball. Can you feel a theme forming?
In terms of decor, just like its other addresses, the new GITANO boasts signature palm trees and other tropical vegetation, leopard-print details and chandeliers crafted by Mexican artisans. According to an official press release, the space also features cement tiles imported from Merida, Mexico.
The food menu includes a crudo section with a selection of tostadas and ceviches; a large plates section with black bass and lamb birria; desserts, including churros; and an extensive drinks menu that includes a mezcal martini, a Gitano paloma, and more.
GITANO will be open for regular hours starting March 10. Its operating hours are 11am until 4pm; Thursdays through Saturdays from 5pm with a final seating at 12:30am; and Sundays through Wednesdays from 5pm with final seatings at 10:30pm.
