This NYC neighborhood is apparently one of the friendliest in the U.S.

Shockingly, at least some New Yorkers are considered friendly.

While New Yorkers are often considered some of the least friendly people in the U.S., a recent study by home decor store Hastha Kalalu suggests that a particular group of city dwellers may actually be seen as quite convivial.

According to the survey—which draws from U.S. Census, Zillow and FBI crime data to compare 30 of the most searched districts based on affordability, safety and community vibe—the Upper West Side is, indeed, the eighth friendliest neighborhood in the U.S.

"Friendly neighborhoods need more than just nice people—they emerge from a connection of affordability, safety and community rather than just social factors alone," said a Hastha Kalalu spokesperson in an official statement. "While most friendly neighborhoods tend to be suburban, New York's Upper West Side proves that even expensive city areas can build strong communities when other factors line up right."

The study specifically mentions the area's high cost of living (38% above the national average!) and pricy housing, but points to its strong safety measures as well.

Elkhorn in Omaha tops the ranking overall, thanks to its low crime rate, highest safety among all top ten neighborhoods and, bonus points!, low cost of living.

The top three is rounded out by Kingwood in Houston and South Side in Corpus Christi. Apparently, Texas is the place to be if you're looking for friendly neighbors?
