We don't want you to panic but, if you haven't heard yet, you should know that cases of the measles—a highly contagious virus that causes fever, cough, a runny nose and a red rash—have been reported around the tri-state area throughout the past few months.
The good news: the malady is totally preventable by vaccine.
If you haven't gotten yours yet, you might want to consult the interactive NYC HealthMap, which shows you where you can get your measles, mumps and rubella vaccine (MMR). The tool also features vaccination sites for a slew of other viruses, so it's definitely something to keep handy.
You can filter the results by services, location, ages served and payment methods. In addition to the map itself, the site will output a list of results according to your set preferences. You can find the interactive tool right here.
Keep in mind that, according to NYC Health, "anyone who has received two doses of a measles vaccine is considered immune for life and unlikely to get measles."
Technically speaking, a child is supposed to get his first MMR vaccine at 12 months, with a second dose scheduled between the ages of 4 and 6, before entering school.
Stay safe, New Yorkers!
