The city's exciting outdoor art scene just got even better: "Love Continuum," a 25-foot-long interactive sculpture by Yoni Alter, debuted in Union Square at University Plaza Plaza between 13th and 14th Streets yesterday, where it will stay put through August.

When seen from a distinct vantage point, the bright piece of work spells out the word "love." However, given the shape of the structure, "Love Continuum" seems more like an abstract squiggly line from other perspectives—and that's on purpose: Alter is indirectly commenting on how the very essence of love can look and feel different to anyone.

"When I created this work, I hoped people would interact with the sculpture physically, exploring it from every angle to unlock its deeper meaning," the artist said in an official statement.

The art work will also be the focus of a wider activation involving the entire neighborhood. Starting February 24, for example, coffee shop NewsBar will be selling limited-edition cookies featuring the sculpture's design. A few weeks later, in early March, the business will start distributing disposable cups boasting the image. Then, on March 15, Alter will showcase a different version of "Love Cotinuum" inside the storefront window at 860 Broadway, once home to Andy Warhol's famous Factory. The artist has always been one of Alter's favorites.

"We’re thrilled to unveil 'Love Continuum—'an iconic, interactive sculpture that celebrates love in all its forms," said Julie Stein, Executive Director of Union Square Partnership, in an official statement. "This joyful installation is a testament to the transformative power of art, creating a vibrant destination where visitors of all ages can connect, explore, and experience the excitement of seeing 'love' come to life. Love Continuum is a must-see moment that showcases the joy and connection that art brings to our community."

We could all use a little love every so often, right?
