Let's be honest: New York is the best at many things—but the city's airport game just isn't as strong as it could be.
Sure, we've had some wins—LaGuardia was voted best airport in the country last year, for example, and JFK's massive international airport recently got a much-needed facelift—but, when push comes to shove, other travel hubs around the country offer a better experience than our local options, unfortunately.
A new study by air passenger rights company AirHelp puts things into perspective after collecting data on U.S. airports that had the most and least flight disruptions last month. Two of our own airports made the list: JFK and LaGuardia.
With 26.9% of flights disrupted in February, John F. Kennedy International Airport took the number four spot on the list—meaning well over one out of four flights originating from the base have been delayed for whatever reason.
New York LaGuardia Airport appears on the list at number six, with 26.5% of flights disrupted.
Clearly, there is room for improvement but, to make you feel better, here's an even scarier stat: Ronald Reagan National Airport in Virginia topped the ranking of worst airports in the U.S. with over 40% of its February 2025 flights disrupted. That's nearly half of all routes!
The top three is rounded out by Boston Logan International Airport (31.9%) and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (27.9%).
C'mon, New York transportation gurus, we can do better!
