Time is ticking down to 2025 and with just a few hours left of 2024, you won’t want to spend it in traffic.
Much of New York will be in Times Square for the New Year’s Eve Ball Drop and watching fireworks go off, so you’ll need to prepare before heading out on the road on Tuesday.
Below, we’ve broken down what streets will be closed to traffic on Tuesday ahead of the festivities.

Where can you view the ball drop?
You’ll be able to get into the Times Square ball drop starting at 3pm on Tuesday, December 31, at:
- West 49th Street at 6th Avenue and 8th Avenue
- West 52nd Street at 6th Avenue and 8th Avenue
- West 56th Street at 6th Avenue and 8th Avenue
What streets are closed in NYC for New Year's Eve?
Starting at 4am, you’ll be detoured away from West 42nd to West 49th Street between 7th Avenue and Broadway and West 43rd to West 48th Street between 6th Avenue and 8th Avenue.
Starting at 11am, West 37th to West 57th Street between 7th Avenue and Broadway will be closed as well as West 37th to West 56th Street between 6th Avenue and 8th Avenue.
