Every year, Breads Bakery—one of the most iconic bakeries in town, known for its Jewish and Israeli-style breads and pastries—goes all out for Purim, the holiday that celebrates the salvation of the Jewish people from genocide in ancient Persia.

Traditionally, Purim festivities involve the consumption of hamentaschen, the triangular pastries filled with a variety of sweet and savory fillings.

This year, the New York-based bakery has introduced two brand-new flavors of the classic treat: black sesame and date. Both are creative enough to intrigue New York's adventurous palates, yet "classic" enough to satisfy a broad range of tastes. The new additions join a stellar roster of popular options from past years, including apple, chocolate and poppy.

The hamentaschen are available at all Breads Bakery locations now through March 16 (with Purim officially falling on March 14). You can also order them online for nationwide shipping right here.

Pricing wise, one cookie will cost you $3.75, six go for $21 and a box of a dozen retails for $41. Trust us: eating only one is never enough.

By the way, do you know why these pastries are called hamentaschen? The name refers to Haman, the villain in the Purim story, and specifically alludes to a rumor that his pockets were always filled with bribe money. In Hebrew, the treat is actually called oznei Haman, which literally translates to "Haman's ears."

Happy (almost!) Purim, folks!
