In celebration of the anniversary of their now 20-year-old collaboration, luxury brand Louis Vuitton and Japanese artist Takashi Murakami have launched a unique pop-up at the store's Soho location at 104 Prince Street.
Now through January 31, visitors can look through archival pieces from the duo's former collaborations, shop re-editions and watch two digitally enhanced Superflat movies created by Murakami himself two decades ago and now playing in a just-built cinema downstairs. Also on site is a café serving drinks and baked goods and "a fully operational care station devoted to original pieces," reads a press release.
Let's start with the shopping: the newest collaboration between the two players features the re-issue of the beloved Monogram Multicolore bag, the Superflat Panda and the Superflat Garden. Folks actually making a purchase will receive a little extra something: a token to activate an oversized vending machine filled with brand stickers, trading cards and portable games.
If you're lucky enough to own an original leather good that might now be in need of some TLC, make use of the on-site care station, where you'll be able to order replacement pieces, ask for cleaning services and even restore hand-painted motifs.
And if you're more into the artistic side of the activation, head to the downstairs cinema, where two unique productions will be playing on loop. Back when the first collaboration between Louis Vuitton and Murakami dropped, the artist accompanied the designs with the release of two films: Superflat Monogram Film and Superflat First Love Film, each one a reinterpretation of the classic Alice in Wonderland. Feel free to spend all the time you need watching and re-watching the movies on site.
Keep in mind that, although the exhibit space and cinema will be accessible through the end of the month, the café will only be operational this upcoming weekend (at least for now). All customers making purchases will be able to visit the space and grab a variety of complimentary drinks served in custom Louis Viutton x Muraoami cups and bespoke pastries.
In a way, stopping by the pop-up feels like a trip down the rabbit hole—and we can only assume that's on purpose.
