[title]
Just in time for some unseasonably warm temperatures and the first rain-less weekend in almost two months, popular Israeli ice cream shop Anita La Mamma del Gelato (which, funnily enough, translates from the Italian: Anita the mom of gelato) has announced the opening of its third New York City location, this one in Times Square at 207 West 45th Street by 7th Avenue.
Set to officially open on November 1, the destination joins two others in town, the very first one on Second Avenue on the Upper East Side and a second one in NoMad, on Broadway and 26th Street.
Expect 150 rotating flavors of gelato, frozen yogurt, sorbet and ice cream to be prominently featured behind the glass display on site.
Every day, visitors will get to choose from 36 different types of frozen treats, each one handmade in store, just as is the case at the other locations of the family-owned gelateria around the globe, including ones in Miami, Barcelona, Sydney, Los Angeles, Tel Aviv and Puerto Rico.
Standout flavor options include the macadamia cream, the milk chocolate salted pretzel, the hazelnut mousse with chocolate, the crumble cheesecake with mixed berries and the chocolate almonds with caramel, among others.
The interior of the new shop will boast the sort of 1950s, mid-century modern accents that take over the two other Anita addresses in town. The pale green and light pink look has, after all, come to define the brand just as much as the ice cream offerings have.
Lest you think Anita to be a randomly chosen name, think again: the shop's moniker is an ode to Anita Avital, Adi's mother. The gelato chain did, in fact, originate in Anita's kitchen in Netanya, Israel, back in 1998.
A single mother of four, Anita started making traditional Italian gelato at home with her son Nir in the late '90s using a small ice cream machine. After gaining popularity among their neighbors and when sold from a cart on weekends by Nir, the duo decided to open their very first shop in Tel Aviv in 2002.
Two decades later, there are a total of 19 Anita branches all around the world, including this latest one in our very own New York.
