One of New York City’s most significant museums is making it easier for residents to visit this year.

Starting February 2, New Yorkers will get free admission to the 9/11 Memorial & Museum on the first Sunday of each month. This is a slight change from the First Mondays program it introduced in July 2024, which is now discontinued.

RECOMMENDED: You can now donate clothes to victims of the L.A. fires from Brooklyn

The change, which is thanks to a philanthropic grant of $500,000 from Carnegie Corporation of New York, means that every Sunday in 2025 will be free for NY residents and with widened hours, from 4 to 7pm. Now you can explore the museum, which requires a lot of time to see everything, on Sundays for three hours—for free.

Those who work, live or study in NYC and the surrounding area will just need to show a valid ID upon entry; tickets become available on a rolling basis each month. (Museum admission is always free for 9/11 family members and individuals eligible for the WTC Health program.)

“This program allows New Yorkers to get free admission and offers our neighbors across the city a chance to remember and experience the history of the day together in community with each other,” said Beth Hillman, President & CEO of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, in a statement. “We are grateful for Carnegie Corporation of New York's sustained support of our outreach to New Yorkers and the over 100 million Americans too young to remember 9/11.”

Since its dedication 10 years ago, the museum has been a fixture in Lower Manhattan and documents the ongoing impact of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and aims to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on that day. The museum is located on eight of the 16 acres of the World Trade Center site. In its first decade, the museum welcomed 23 million visitors from all 50 states and more than 175 countries.
