As the vaccine rollout continues to pick up in NYC, with over four million New Yorkers newly eligible to receive the shots as of Sunday, the city released some interesting data on vaccine distribution broken down by zip code today.
The newly released public data boasts a lot of top line figures about the vaccine distribution in the city so far. As of this morning, 1,336,282 doses have been administered in the city overall—831,909 first doses have been administered by NYC-run programs and 371,344 second doses have now gone out. (Additionally, 133,129 doses have been administered by federal pharmacy programs in the city.)
Crucially, the data also breaks down the number of NYC adults vaccinated by zip code in the city. Turns out, many trends you may have expected to see in the data are, in fact, present. A few zip codes on the Upper East Side have more than double the percentage of their populations partially and fully vaccinated than most other neighborhoods. Furthermore, some of the sections of the city that have been hardest hit by the pandemic have the lowest vaccination rates. (Depressingly, Corona, Queens has the lowest partial vaccination rate in the city.)
In a partial push to address some of the ongoing inequality in the vaccine rollout throughout the city, Yankee Stadium was recently turned into a vaccine hub to exclusively serve residents of the Bronx.
