We can’t believe it either given how much time we’ve spent complaining about LaGuardia Airport throughout the years but, according to Forbes Travel Guide’s first Verified Air Travel Awards, the airport is actually the very best one in the U.S.

We have no doubt that the recent renovation efforts have directly contributed to the much appreciated accolade.

According to a press release, Forbes' latest effort seeks to "celebrate the best airline and airport experiences." To that intent, the outlet has given out 22 awards that range in categories—think in-flight cocktail bars, fine airport dining options, top lounges and more. Forbes reached out to 5,000 hospitality and travel experts to come up with the list.

Needless to say, given the extent of the work that has been done at the airport over the past few years, officials are excited about the award, taking it as proof that things are finally looking up for the busy travel hub.

“From the very start, our mission at LaGuardia Airport was to transform what was once the worst airport in the nation into an airport that would rival the best in the world,” said Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton in an official statement. “We have created a new LaGuardia Airport that is no longer a national laughingstock, but something our entire region and country can be proud of.”

From the relatively new Delta terminal to exciting new food-related openings (Magnolia Bakery is there now!) and a stunning Chase lounge on site, LaGuardia has almost become a destination in-and-of-itself. Who needs to fly out of town when there are so many fun and exciting things to experience at the local airport?
