[title]
Othello on Broadway has already shattered several records: after pulling in a staggering $2.8 million in a single week, the Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal-led production became the fastest-growing Broadway play ever. And, really, that shouldn't come as a surprise—tickets are going for over $900, a truly insane price for a seat at the theater.
But fear not! The Broadway gods have come to the rescue of those who can’t afford to spend their hard-earned cash on a Shakespearean spectacle. A limited number of $49 student rush tickets are now available for every performance.
Here’s how you can snag them: the tickets will be up for grabs at the Barrymore Theatre box office when it opens on the day of the show (10am Tuesdays through Saturdays, and noon on Sundays). You’ll need to present a valid student ID to secure a ticket, which are limited to one per person. Easy peasy—if you’re still a student, that is.
For those who no longer roam the hallowed halls of academia, a digital lottery for affordable passes might do the trick.
You can enter the contest, which opens at midnight the night before each performance, right here. The first round of winners will be notified by 10am the next morning, with additional lucky souls hearing the good news by 3pm. Each winner can purchase up to two tickets at $49 each, plus a $5 fee—which is a steal compared to the $216 "regular" tickets currently on sale (if you can even find one). Be warned: these seats might be partial view.
So, may fortune favor thee, gentle theatergoer.
