The Phoenix is about to rise! And fall. And rise again. Then spin around.

Coney Island’s newest roller coaster is set to have its Grand Opening this Thursday, July 1, at 10:30am. The new family-friendly ride “The Phoenix” is a suspended steel thrill ride that’s inspired by Coney Island’s constantly innovative history as “the people’s playground.”

The Vourderis family behind Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement Park has been working on the new ride for the last three years.

“It’s what we do,” said third-generation co-owner DJ Vourderis in a statement. “We are an amusement park family committed to providing a safe family-friendly place for people of all ages to come together and share moments of joy after a long year where there were more reminders of what divides us than what unites us. The rising and grand opening of The Phoenix family thrill roller coaster symbolizes that we all have much in common.”

The Phoenix rises 68-feet-high with custom loops, dips and turns that will give riders the feeling that they’re soaring around the nearby Deno’s Wonder Wheel at 34 mph. Riders on the coaster will have spectacular views of the beach and boardwalk along with their sky-high thrills.

Get a first look at the ride, set to open later this week, below and then head down to 1025 Boardwalk at Denos D. Vourderis Place on Coney Island to check it out for yourself starting this weekend.
