It is, truly, the end of an era: on February 2, 2025, Blue Man Group—the popular Off Broadway show known for body painting acts and, well, blue, bald men on stage—will officially end its run in New York after a whopping 34 years.

The news come alongside a separate announcement regarding the show's end in Chicago as well. The last Illinois show will take place on January 5, 2025.

"Blue Man Group is unlike anything else in the world and is undeniably one of the most recognized and successful entertainment productions because of the hardworking cast, crew and creative team," managing director Jack Kenn said in an official press release. "It was because of them that these shows captured millions of hearts night after night, and we give our utmost thanks."

The legendary troupe first debuted the show at the Astor Place Theater, truly elevating the status of Off Broadway productions all over town. Unlike anything else seen on stage at the time, the production has always been a mix of comedy and acrobatic-like performances that amazed audiences for over three decades, during over 17,000 shows in total.

The success of the production can most easily be understood when looking at its expansion. Since first launching, shows have been set up in Berlin, Boston, Chicago, Orlando, Las Vegas and more.

As of now, aside from Chicago and New York, productions will continue to be staged in other markets.

If the Blue Man Group follows the trajectory of Sleep No More, another long-running (14 years, to be precise) New York show that announced its upcoming end, we might be in for a few extra stagings by the funny trio of blue men past February. Originally scheduled to close for good on January 28, 2024, the immersive production will apparently now play its final performance on January 5, 2025.

Cheers to a beautiful, exciting and city-changing run.
