For the past decade, Black Flamingo was the go-to bar and club for many Williamsburg residents looking for a guaranteed easy and fun night out.

These days, though, a loyal customer base isn't enough to keep the lights on: the beloved club announced that it's going to close its doors for good next month on Saturday, March 1.

The basement-level club cited increased rents and a cultural shift as reasons it was deciding to call it quits. "The neighborhood has changed a lot, and the club scene has evolved with it," Bryce David, the co-owner of the venue, told Resident Advisor. "There are now many smaller bars with dancing options, but nothing feels as vibrant as it did when we first opened. The longer you stay around, the harder it is to maintain the vibe you originally created."

As the demographics of neighborhoods change, so, too must the businesses that exist within them, and David noted that the space might get converted into something different where "music will be a component but not the focus."

"2025 makes 10 Years since we opened. Ups, downs, and all arounds," Black Flamingo said in an Instagram caption announcing the closure. "All the memories will live on forever, hosted some OG legends and was at ground zero for a lot of local talent who are now touring the globe."

This is the latest in a string of recent nightlife closures throughout the city, which notably included Paragon, the Bushwick nightclub that welcomed some of the country's biggest DJs in its short three year run. They also cited rising costs as the reason for their closure in April.

We still have a few weeks left to enjoy Black Flamingo, and they're having events every weekend from now until March. This Friday, they'll be hosting their party The Gamut, which describes itself as a space where "Talking Heads and Fela Kuti can play alongside Daft Punk and Moodymann." You can get tickets to that party here

Visit Black Flamingo at 168 Borinquen Place on Fridays and Saturdays from 10:30pm to 4am.
