The National Weather Service has just issued a winter weather advisory for the tri-state and NYC areas, warning about an impending trio of storms set to bring along with them what is sure to be an awful mix of ice, snow and rain starting 4am tonight through 1pm tomorrow morning.
According to the various models, the weather pattern is likely to develop overnight, leading to some snow after 4am with steady temperatures holding at around 33 degrees. Before 9am tomorrow, though, a combination of sleet, snow and rain will make the morning commute difficult until, at least, 11am, when the precipitation is expected to turn into good ol' rain.
As for how much snow, exactly, we're getting, the National Weather Service predicts about an inch of accumulation throughout NYC and up to two inches of snow across surrounding areas.
It's clear, though, that what commuters should mostly worry about is the ice, which will create hazardous travel conditions on both streets and public transportation.
By Thursday night, the weather should dry out... but of course, the storm expected to hit next week will likely bring more chaotic, wet conditions. Ah, winter in New York.
On X last night, Mayor Eric Adams advised everyone to be careful and announced that the Sanitation Department will start brining the streets today "so we can be prepared for whatever happens."
To be clear: you should go home tonight and just stay there.
