The fabulous fighting gals of Sailor Moon, the mega-popular Japanese manga and animated series that captured our hearts and imaginations in the 1990s, are coming to life in a live show right here in Times Square this April.

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon: The Super Live, which debuted in Tokyo in August 2018, in Paris in November 2018, in Washington, D.C. and in New York in March 2019, is back in town at Palladium Times Square Theater on April 24-26 to conclude its North America tour, “rocking the stage with love, justice and friendship.”

According to the official theater synopsis, the show follows school girl Usagi Tsukino who is called on to transform into her alter ego, Sailor Moon, to save the galaxy with her powers and fellow all-female team of Sailor Guardians. They protect the world by defeating evil and band together with confidence and self-determination. And yes, you bet there will be an appearance by Tuxedo Mask!

The show is a 2.5D musical, which means it’s based on the 2D manga (Japanese comic book) art form, rather than 3D theater. We experienced the 90-minute show (which is in Japanese with English subtitles) in London and it made us feel like kids again. We sang along with the songs we knew by heart and watched iconic scenes.

The book, lyrics and direction are by Kaori Miura (Musical: The Prince of Tennis, Tokyo Revengers the Musical) while Satomi Toma leads choreography and Go Sakabe and KYOHEI are behind the music.

Created by Naoko Takeuchi, the manga, now a global cultural phenomenon, first debuted in 1991 and has since sold over 46 million copies worldwide. It’s been translated into over 17 languages and was adapted as an anime and a live-action TV series, which has aired in over 40 countries.

This particular production was the first-ever 2.5D musical to hit North American stages.

You can grab your tickets to the April show right here, starting at $88 per person.
