Sisters!
Hocus Pocus turns 25 this year, and though it's guaranteed that October will bring plenty of special screenings, Alamo Drafthouse in Brooklyn is getting ahead of the curve this July. In attendance for an introductory panel to the screening will be Kathy Najimy, known as the kooky-haired, slack-jawed Mary Sanderson. The special viewing goes down July 16 at 7pm, and is already sold out. However, keep an eye on the theater's Twitter account for any additional screening announcements.
Najimy's work in Hocus Pocus (or as my Polish grandmother calls it, Hoocus Foocus) was just the beginning of a storied career as a character actor. She's showed up on King of the Hill, Veep, Ugly Betty, Rat Race and Younger, among many other shows and movies. And, of course, I'd be remiss to not mention her seminal role in the Sister Act saga as Sister Mary Patrick. Salve Regina, babe!
It's not entirely out of the question for them to add a second showing...and invite Bette Midler and Sarah Jessica Parker to turn up. They do live in NYC, after all. n
