Are you tired of the same New York holiday traditions? Have you gone ice skating hundreds of times? You’ve seen enough window displays at Saks Fifth Avenue or Bergdorf Goodman to last you a lifetime? That’s where the new “Winter Wonder: The Northern Lights Express” exhibit at Rockefeller Center’s Hero comes into play. Trek through giant, snowy displays, an imaginary train car, and dancing lights in this immersive experience which runs until January 20.

After opening late last year, the enveloping, vast displays of HERO are getting a seasonal update. The “Winter Wonder” exhibit brings you through the 13,000-square-foot space, stopping in eleven rooms to see familiar, beloved scenes from the coldest part of the year. The trip kicks off at a secret train station—complete with a clock tower, fir trees and silver tinsel—so attendees can take the Northern Lights Express towards the galleries.

From there, the conductor brings the visitors to the Wishing Woods, where seasonal desires are written and shared on a snowy tree. You’ll also attend the Ice Caves, where digital displays showcase arctic animals, and the Snow Bounce room, where kids can jump around and play atop of giant candy mushrooms. Before reaching their final destination, treats like hot chocolate and seasonal cocktails are available for purchase.

Things conclude with a room based on the Northern Lights, where a faux-snow ball pit, turf icebergs, and the digital aura borealis appears. But don’t forget to check out the Gingerbread Workshop on the way out to bring some of the journey home with you.

This Winter Wonderland is open each day of the week aside from Monday, from noon until 8pm on weekdays and 11am until 7pm on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets can be found here starting at $25 for children and $35 for adults.
