As the Tribeca Festival gears up for its 2025 iteration this summer, we have some exciting news about this year's opening night film: Billy Joel: And So It Goes. The HBO original two-part documentary will premiere at the Beacon Theatre on June 4, officially kicking off the festival with an expansive portrait of the iconic artist’s personal life and career.
“For nearly 25 years, the Tribeca Festival has celebrated the artists who give New York its heart and soul, and on the opening night of the 2025 Festival, we are thrilled to honor Billy Joel—an artist who has embodied that very spirit,” said Jane Rosenthal, co-founder and CEO of the Tribeca Festival, in an official statement. “Paying tribute to the legendary performer who captured the essence of a ‘New York state of mind’ is a perfect way to begin this year’s celebration of creativity and inspiration.”
Expect the film to showcase never-before-seen performances by Joel, along with personal photos, belongings, in-depth interviews and home videos offering an intimate look at the artist’s life—both personal and musical.
Following its world premiere at the Beacon Theatre, the documentary will be available for streaming on Max later in the summer.
This year’s Tribeca Festival will run from June 4 to 15, featuring a lineup of films, talks, games, immersive experiences and other productions that highlight both independent, emerging artists and more established acts.
