If you woke up this morning thinking Santa kidnapped you and smuggled you into the Finnish tundra, you'd be perfectly justified — it just doesn't snow like this in New York anymore. In fact, Central Park hadn't seen more than an inch of the white powdery stuff since February 2022.

Since climate change is probably going to keep making snowy New York winters more rare, we’re absolutely going to go full penguin mode and indulge in this moment. If you’re the type who prefers to appreciate the cold under the comfort of some blankets, that’s fine, too — here are 10 of our favorite pictures and videos of today’s snowfall, as seen by the brave New Yorkers who stepped outside.

There's something particularly ethereal about waking up and seeing your neighbor's roofs covered in snow.
