NYC's premier free-jazz convocation returns. Vision is always a highlight of the summer concert calendar, and this year's lineup is typically diverse and star-studded. The 2011 Lifetime Achievement honoree is righteously raw German saxophone master Peter Brötzmann, who plays three sets on Wed 8. Other highlights include the June 10 debut of Planetary Unknown—a powerhouse quartet featuring David S. Ware, Cooper-Moore, William Parker and Muhammad Ali (brother of the late Rashied)—the duo of British sax sorcerer Evan Parker and local piano luminary Matthew Shipp on June 9, and a rare local appearance from noirish Polish trumpeter Tomasz Stanko on Tue 7. We strongly encourage you to visit visionfestival.org for the complete schedule of events.
