Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews grew up playing alongside New Orleans's nimblest brass men, soaking up the street beats of the city's music-rich Tremé neighborhood. The prodigious Andrews, now 25, has developed into one of the Big Easy's best, playing trumpet and composing as well as continuing with the 'bone. For all his refinement, Andrews's powerhouse band, Orleans Avenue, works in the contemporary brass-band vein, pumping the raw grooves co-opted by hip-hop for maximum ass-moving. There'll be plenty of that tonight, as the band celebrates its brand-new disc, For True. Contemporary brass standout Bonerama gets things going.
