Polish trumpeter Tomasz Stanko originally came to prominence in a quintet with the late pianist Krzysztof Komeda, which brought a pointed, Don Cherry–like expressionism to European jazz. He returns to Birdland at the helm of his New York Quartet—with pianist David Virelles, bassist Thomas Morgan and drummer Gerald Cleaver—to herald the arrival of a lovely new ECM two-CD set, Wislawa.
