In the Left Banke’s ’60s heyday, the NYC combo’s much-vaunted “baroque rock” tag failed to convey the breadth and depth of its classically influenced arrangements, exquisite harmonies and evocative, emotionally resonant songwriting, which yielded hits like "Walk Away Renée" and "Pretty Ballerina." The band's unexpected resurgence, featuring founding members Tom Finn and George Cameron channeling the original band’s bittersweet essence with the help of eight local players, is the rare revival effort that honors its source rather than exploiting it.
