Like other chillwave surfers of yore rebranding since the genre's oceanic crash (see Neon Indian), Small Black has recently retooled its nostalgia-heavy pop with a lush, ’80s-steeped throb. The deeper, spacier vibe on the local electropop fave's new LP, Best Blues, should pair well with the celestail synth-pop from consummate dream pop scenester Frankie Rose (see Vivian Girls, Crystal Stilts, Dum Dum Girls).
