Japan’s biggest artists performed at a revival of an iconic ’80s festival—and we were in the front row

Nearly 100,000 people flocked to the three-day Visual Japan Summit music festival in Chiba, Japan, this past weekend to see Visual-Kei pioneers X Japan, Luna Sea, Glay and more. Some festivalgoers waited over 14 hours in the front row to see X Japan, and at the conclusion of Friday night’s show, the audience was treated to a surprise visit from Gene Simmons, who hopped onstage to play “I Wanna Rock N Roll All Night” with X Japan frontman Yoshiki.
